The Award
The prestigious NASCIO Technology Champion Award acknowledges innovators who promote excellence in both technology and good government.
Why
Strong, cross-jurisdictional leadership is imperative to advance sound information technology policy. Effective information technology is crucial for the day-to-day functions of our government, from facilitating information sharing and knowledge transfer critical to protecting public assets and providing cost-effective services, to establishing responsive communication to meet the needs of today’s citizens.
Who can be a nominee?
• Elected or appointed official representing federal, state or local government.
• Academician, author, journalist or an individual from the non-profit or private sector.
Who cannot be a nominee?
• Current state CIOs
• Individuals employed by NASCIO
• Corporate members
Selection Criteria
• An individual whose personal leadership made a critical contribution to the effective use of information technology in the public sector. His/her contribution may have cross-jurisdictional impact or be in a specific category (government efficiency, homeland security, healthcare, education, information security, research, etc.).
• An innovator whose work has made demonstrable impacts to advance information technology as an effective tool for government.
• An individual with a proven track record of sustained interest in and advocacy for IT in the public sector. The ideal candidate demonstrates a broad-ranging impact felt beyond his/her jurisdiction or organization.

Selection Process
The final determination of NASCIO’s Technology Champion is made by NASCIO’s Executive Committee.
When will the award be announced?
The recipient will be announced during NASCIO’s Midyear Conference in April 2013.
