NGA Partners with Seven States and Territories on Cyber Strategy
The National Governors Association (NGA) has selected seven states and territories in 2019 to enhance their statewide cybersecurity strategies. NGA announced last week that Arkansas, Guam, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio and Washington were chosen to partner with the Center for Best Practices to develop action plans on overall cybersecurity governance.

Bipartisan, Bicameral Legislation Introduced to Assess Threat of Deepfakes
Last week, the Deepfakes Report Act of 2019 was introduced in the House of Representatives and the Senate, which would require the Secretary of Homeland Security to publish an annual report on the rising threat of digital content forgery or deepfake technology. H.R. 3600 was introduced by Reps. Kilmer (D-WA), King (R-NY), Murphy (D-FL), and Hurd (R-TX), while the Senate bill is sponsored by Sens. Peters (D-MI) and Portman (R-OH).

NASCIO Endorses State and Local Government Cybersecurity Act of 2019
NASCIO endorsed S. 1846, the State and Local Government Cybersecurity Act of 2019. Introduced by Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and Rob Portman (R-OH), the legislation amends the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to provide for engagements with state, local, tribal and territorial governments.

NASCIO Endorses State Cyber Resiliency Act of 2019
NASCIO, along with the National Governors Association (NGA), the National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL) and the Governors Homeland Security Advisors Council (GHSAC), endorsed H.R. 2130 and S. 1065, the State Cyber Resiliency Act of 2019. Introduced by Senators Cory Gardner (R-CO) and Mark Warner (D-VA) and Representatives Derek Kilmer (D-WA) and Michael McCaul (R-TX), the legislation would create and authorize the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to establish a new grant program for states to utilize for cybersecurity.
