Deltek Analyst Aila Altman reports.

Through the Work Support Strategies (WSS): Streamlining Access, Strengthening Families initiative, spearheaded by The Ford Foundation, six states were recently chosen to receive three-year grants averaging $460,000 each to streamline services to low-income working families. Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina and Rhode Island were the chosen grantees. These six states as well as Kentucky, New Mexico and Oregon already participated in Phase 1 of the WSS initiative, which was conducted for preliminary planning and strategizing purposes.

In line with the objectives of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), WSS aims to simplify the delivery of public benefits for Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and child care subsidies. The grant funding will enable states and counties to take advantage of new technologies that encourage integrated eligibility determination and enrollment for public benefit programs, as well as do away with overcomplicated policies and processes.
