This IT skillset is hot! Can states recruit and retain mobile app developers? Are states outsourcing most of their mobile development and support?  On February 7, TechNet, the bipartisan policy and political network of technology CEOs that promotes the growth of the innovation economy, released a new study showing that there are now roughly 466,000 jobs in the “App Economy” in the US, up from zero in 2007. There were roughly 155,000 jobs in the “App Economy” by the fourth quarter of 2011, according to the study. As each new mobile app is created, there are jobs for programmers, designers, marketing, support staff, etc.  The full study, Where the Jobs Are is here -

In the 2011 NASCIO survey on the state IT workforce, it's clear states are challenged to recruit and retain application developers, mobile app developers and related skills. Mobile development and support was in the top 5 skills that are hard to fill. This may be a tough gap to fill.

What skills & disciplines present the greatest challenges in attracting & retaining IT employees?
