Cyber Disruption - Every State Must Prepare

By Eric Sweden posted May 24,2016 09:32 AM

NASCIO recently released guidance on cyber disruption response planning. This is a first version report and it is the intention of NASCIO to continue to publish on this topic. Input from across the NASCIO community in reaction to this guidance is highly sought.

This report emphasizes getting started by establishing relationships with key stakeholders. Those relationships are critical to developing the necessary governance, communications and operating discipline for cyber disruption response planning.  Cyber disruptions are events of high magnitude lasting weeks to months. States and local governments must partner now to develop necessary capabilities that will be needed to prevent, mitigate and respond to such events.

Ideas were gathered from those states and regions that have begun work on such capabilities. However, much is yet to be done even in those jurisdictions to build resiliency and ability to recover cyber disruptions.

As you review this guide, take note of what is missing and what improvements can be made to this guidance. Your input is highly appreciated!
