NASCIO Policy Talk

A few weeks ago, NASCIO Vice President and Connecticut CIO Mark Raymond testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing, "Enhancing Preparedness and Response Capabilities to Address Cyber Threats." Between Mark and me, we invested several days and many hours to writing testimony, developing answers to anticipated questions, preparing the oral statement, and researching committee members - all of this for five minutes of speaking time at the hearing.

You may be asking why we invested so much for five minutes of fame. I'll tell you! Being invited to testify at a congressional hearing accomplishes much more than what may meet the eye. As a hearing witness, Mark is being recognized as an expert in his field, NASCIO gains brand recognition (and free marketing!), and it's an opportunity to push the NASCIO government affairs agenda with federal decision-makers in a very public way. In fact, check out the YouTube video of the hearing - it's already gotten over 770 views.

As the NASCIO representative, Mark did an incredible job delivering his remarks and answering questions posed by committee members which isn't as easy as he made it look. He competently shared his expert opinion and gained traction for our government affairs agenda - which is exactly what we hoped to accomplish. Thanks again, Mark!
