2014 promises to be an exciting year for implementation of the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC). Our three complementary initiatives - facilitating the private-sector led Identity Ecosystem Steering Group (IDESG), launching the Federal Cloud Credential Exchange (FCCX), and funding the NSTIC pilot program – are hitting major milestones in 2014, contributing significantly to the emerging Identity Ecosystem envisioned in the nation’s strategy. We hope you will join us in Atlanta, Georgia January 14-16 to learn more, network with those engaged in NSTIC initiatives, and join in the important ongoing work of the IDESG. White House Update. Andy Ozment, Senior Director for Cybersecurity, National Security Staff, will provide an update from the White House on the NSTIC as a key administration identity and privacy initiative and how it complements other national cybersecurity programs and frameworks. The Administration is pushing for increased funding for the NSTIC, enabling the NSTIC NPO to further catalyze the marketplace of trusted identity solutions through pilot grant funding and facilitate further the private sector-led Identity Ecosystem Steering Group (IDESG).
Update on the Federal Cloud Credential Exchange (FCCX). NPO privacy lead and recent Fierce 15 award winner Naomi Lefkovitz will provide plenary participants with an update on the forthcoming launch of the FCCX, the US Postal-hosted service that enables government, as an early adopter of the Identity Ecosystem, to accept trusted, third-party credentials for access to government websites.
Meet the new NSTIC Pilots! 2013 pilot awardees ID.me, TSCP, plenary site host GTRI, Privo, and Exponent will provide a first look at their innovative projects that will help catalyze the marketplace of trusted identity solutions in multiple important segments.
IDESG plenary and committee meetings. 2014 marks the launch of the IDESG as a newly incorporated independent entity. This move is a major step toward implementing an identity ecosystem that is driven by business and organizational leaders in partnership with a broad and diverse group of stakeholders in the public and private sectors. In plenary-wide sessions and in committees and other meetings, Atlanta will mark further progress toward developing an Identity Ecosystem Framework. For example, the Trust Framework and Trustmark (TFTM) Committee will hold an important session to continue mapping requirements for the Identity Ecosystem, contributing to an analysis paper that is expected to guide the important work of the IDESG committees toward establishing an interim identity ecosystem framework by the end of 2014.
IDESG Strategic Planning. The IDESG launched a major initiative in 2013 to focus on strategic planning for the new corporation. The Atlanta meeting will include plenary-wide sessions to review the results and key findings from many interviews with stakeholders within the IDESG and outside in industry. The sessions will advance the strategic planning process to establish the IDESG mission, vision and value proposition and build the plans for where the IDESG is going and how it will get there.
