NASCIO Applauds Congress on Passing Bipartisan Legislation to Build a Nationwide Public Safety Network

Washington, D.C., Friday, February 17 — More than ten years after 9/11, as part of the legislative package passed this week to extend the payroll tax and jobless benefits, the U.S. House and Senate have included authority, funding and a spectrum allocation to build a nationwide interoperable public safety broadband network. The reallocation of spectrum for public safety (D-Block) was a top advocacy priority for the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO).

According to NASCIO, an association devoted to state CIOs and a leading advocate for technology policy at all levels of government, the establishment of this network will improve our nation’s homeland security and provide first responders with new voice, video, and data communication technologies that are urgently and desperately needed to meet public safety needs for the 21st...
